LED lighting is a relatively new and exciting innovation to our hobby, helping to light reef aquariums in amazing colours and combinations. With LED lighting you can create cloud simulations and lightning storms, and even simulate the phases of the moon There are many new products coming to market all the time, and as with any other new innovation, some products are excellent, some are good, and some are pretty ordinary.
There are so many new brands coming out of China these days, one must always do your homework when buying LED units, the cheaper brands quite often use older style or weaker bulbs that have been surpassed by stronger longer lasting versions.
The CREE brand of LED bulb is currently fast becoming the standard to look for when purchasing LED units, so always look out for this name. CREE are continuously improving the intensity, stability and longevity of their bulbs, so always make sure you are getting the latest version to get the best bang for your buck.
